Many students are interested in the Lemony Snicket books in the "Series of Unfortunate Events" and this resulted in a desire to explore related web sites (particularly after the movie debut).  Students often use books from the series for free reading and book report presentations.

Kim Reybitz Students first fill out a KWL chart on the Titanic.  Next, students complete a vocabulary lesson on their computers using the dictionary program.  The story, "Exploring the Titanic" by Robert Ballard, is read in class.  As a culminating activity, students are encouraged to explore the various web sites on the Titanic (as well as the related links) and share something that they learned with the class.  In addition, students take a test on the story.

Laura Martin (EH)
I found a great site that offers interactive presentations that are engaging and entertaining. It is full of music, props and humor to add an element of fun.
I actually used it to teach lessons on statistics using the projector.  I think it would be also an excellent tool to put students on individually to reinforce concepts.

Use the link, once you get to the site, skip the intro. Choose "Lessons" from the menu.  The understanding and interpreting graphs lesson was excellent!  I can't wait to try more.

The first site is a great interactive website for students to have a hands-on experience learning about Egypt.
It includes not only educational information, but games that reinforce these topics.

The second site is a great website sponsored by the British Museum, which includes educational information and games that
reinforce these topics.

Ancient Egypt: Writing and Research
http://guardians.net/egypt/
Amy Horwath (EH)
Students can surf the web looking for information on gods and goddesses from ancient Egypt.    With the information they find they are to make a title down poem using the name of the god or goddess.  If students are not familiar with a title down poem, you will be required to teach this.  Most students, however, are familiar with this type of poem.  Each line may be a complete sentence or a sentence fragment and should be punctuated as such.  Student includes a colored picture of the god or goddess along with the poem.  Students are graded according to correct punctuation, information (correct or not), spelling, does it make sense?, colored picture  included?, site listed to show where information was found unless you direct them to a specific site from my list of sites if you find certain ones more appropriate than others.

*Note:  WARNING!!!  Some gods/goddesses have names with only 2 letters in them.  Some students may choose these gods to minimize effort needed to accomplish this lesson*Review entire site before giving to student to view...since my address includes MANY sites.
